About My Search

First and foremost, I really enjoyed most everyone's presentations from the past week.  There were a load of interesting topics brought up and many were some that I myself wouldn't have even thought to use.

Now for my search, I have found quite a bit of material on my topic, Nuclear Fusion, but I have run into some problems with more research. I know I can talk to a Physics and Nuclear Engineering Professor. Also, I can set up a survey but is there any other type of hands-on research for topic? FEEDBACK PLEASE!!!

Another thing about nuclear fusion, if it can be harnessed without total destruction then it would still end the world as we know it. Think about this, can you imagine having unlimited energy? If we had Unlimited energy would it not change the world as we know it? Nuclear Fusion would give and relative infinite amount of energy. The society that can harness nuclear fusion would have more energy than they knew what to do with. Remember The Jetson's, our society would end up a lot like theirs. We would have flying cars and automated everything just because we would be able to power it all with no consequences. Would this not be the end of the world as we know it? Can you fathom this change in our society?

  1. This would be a huge fundamental change, but I'm not sure it would be an apocalyptic level of change. I don't see this having much of an effect on religion, philosophy or morality nor mending all social, economic, and political gaps. Not all countries would be able to afford the start-up costs, and so the poor nations would be forced to buy from the richer ones, etc. Perhaps you could argue for us finding the balance between responsible use and causing our own destruction. Many of the science professors on campus would probably back that kind of argument. And you could poll people on whether they would support responsible development despite the risks. You're taking this in some very cool directions. Nice and thought provoking. I like this brain food. Yum.

  2. I am not sure that there are many more types of hands-on research that you could do for your topic other than interviewing a professor. I would say that that is your best bet because the average person is probably not going to know enough about this to be helpful to you at all.
I cannot even imagine what our world would be like with unlimited energy. I would say that that would probably be a good thing to address in your paper. Good luck with your research.

  3. Having an unlimited supply of power would without a doubt change our world. It would also put an end to the global warming debate if it offered a source of energy that wasn't believed to put the environment in jeopardy.
